Anfield, the stadium where the famous red men play, actually pre- dates the current Liverpool team. Opened in 1884 it was the home stadium for our arch rivals Everton until a rent dispute forced Everton to move away from Anfield.

John Houlding formed Liverpool Football Club in 1892 and the club has never looked back. The first game for Liverpool was against Rotherham at Anfield which ended 7-1 to the home team. The first league match to be played was in 1893 against Lincoln which saw Liverpool win 4-0.

The highest known attendance for a match at Anfield has been recorded as 61,905 in 1952 against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
