Jamie Carragher Opens Academy In India

Posted by

The very first Liverpool International Football Academy in India was officially opened this week and on hand was a former Academy graduate and Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher.  The Academy in partnership with DSK Shivajians FC which is based in Pune, and set over 20 acres, boasts two full-size pitches, a 4G synthetic pitch, swimming pool and 840 rooms will prepare 64 students under-17 and under-19 age groups over the next few years.

Carragher who officially opened the Academy in his first official engagement since retiring from football spoke of his own experience as a youngster before going on to represent the Reds 737 times.

“I was at Liverpool’s Academy for six years before I went on to playing in the first team for 17 years. I know first-hand how important it is to have the right development as a young player to fulfil your potential”

“The players, who will make up the U17s and U19s squads, will follow Liverpool’s philosophies both on and off the pitch. The kids are from all over the country and some of them have been awarded scholarships so this will be a life-changing experience for them. The Academy back in Liverpool is very close to my heart so it’s great to be here today and be part of the opening of India’s first international residential football academy”

Another proud moment for Reds as India witnesses one of the club’s iconic players set foot in the country and open its first Liverpool International Academy. It simply doesn’t get better than this!
