Dr Zaf Nominated For AFA Award

Head of Medicine at Liverpool Football Club Dr Zaf Iqbal, has been nominated for the second time for the ‘Behind the Scenes Medical’ award at the Asian Football Awards. Having picked up the award in the inaugural year of the Asian Football Award, Dr Zaf Iqbal continues to not only make an impact wider impact  in football, but beyond his role at Liverpool Football Club.

Dr Iqbal was closely involved with the work of the Oliver King Foundation who were calling for the government to introduce defibrillators to all schools and public buildings by 2017.  And earlier this year, the 100,000 signatures that were needed to set the discussion in motion in parliament was achieved.

Over the years Dr Iqbal has also been involved in voluntary medical assistance in supporting humanitarian disaster in South Asia. He remains at the pinnacle of his profession and has written health articles for magazines, scientific journals, and the widely acclaimed sports and medicine book Brukner and Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine.

Alongside Dr Iqbal nomination there are two more nominees representing Liverpool Football Club. Abu Nasir who is part of the Liverpool’s Official Supporter’s Committee, is up for the ‘Behind the Scenes Administration’ award.

The final nomination is in the Up and Coming Player category for 14 year old Yan Dhanda. Dhanda  who created Liverpool history in July by signing for the Reds.

Dhanda, who is of Indian descent, has attracted much attention since he won an Asian football talent competition in 2011. His recent rise has seen him called up to train with England’s under 16′s and he has his own sponsors, none other than Nike.
