Heysel : 39 Fans Remembered

Posted by

Today we remember the 39 fans who died on this day at Heysel Stadium in Belgium, 28 years ago.

Liverpool were to play Italian side Juventus as defending champions in the 1985 European Cup final, a year on from defeating AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico to lift the trophy for the fourth time in the club’s history.

But tragedy unfolded and 39 fans lost their lives as a wall collapsed.

A floral tribute will be place this morning by Ian Ayre at the Heysel Memorial Plaque in the Centenary Stand. While club flags will be flying at half mast as a mark of respect.
