Government Apologise To The Families Of Hillsborough

Posted by

During Prime Minster’s Questions today, David Cameron has apologised to the families affected by the Hillsborough tragedy.

His remarks follows the release of a report into previously unseen documents about what happened on 15 April 1989.

“What happened that day and since was wrong. The families were right. I am profoundly sorry”.

The report shows that Liverpool fans were victims of a police cover-up and a media reporting false allegations about the behaviour of fans.

The Prime Minster stopped short of saying there was a cover up by Margaret Thatcher’s government at the time.

Following a statement from Labour leader Ed Milliband, the PM confirmed that the Attorney General will look into whether to ask the High Court to quash the verdict of the orginal inquest.

The full report will be made available to the public later today.

Our thoughts are with the families of Hillsborough.

You’ll Never Walk Alone.
