Top Five Liverpool Free Kicks

Posted by

Anfield erupted into mass celebration after Luis Suarez delivered an unbeatable world class free-kick. Accuracy, whip and bend were all on show as the ball left Suarez’s foot to sneak past the inside post to find the back of the net.

A free kick to marvel at, and one which will be replayed over and over again in years to come.

The Asian Kop thought it would be fitting to take a trip down memory lane and have picked out 5 memorable free-kicks scored in the famous Red of Liverpool.

In no particular order…

Gary Mcallister v Everton (2001)

John Arne Riise v Man Utd (2001)

Fabio Aurelio v Man Utd (2009) and Chelsea (2009)

John Barnes v Portsmouth 1992 FA Cup Semi Final

Although John Barnes did not score from the free-kick, his celebration would have suggested otherwise! With minutes remaining on the clock and Liverpool facing an exit, Barnes’s free-kick against Portsmouth secured a replay at Villa Park. Such was the importance of this free-kick that Liverpool went on to win the replay against Portsmouth, and subsequently the FA Cup in 1992. The only trophy that Liverpool managed to secure in their centenary year.
