Liverpool’s season got off to a dissapointing start as they lost their opening game to West Brom 3-0.

Goals from Zoltan Gera, Peter Odemwingie and Romelu Lakaku gave the Baggins an opening day win.

The game started lively as Luis Suarez did his best to stamp his authority on the game, creating some chances for the Reds.

The club’s latest signing Fabio Borini showed glimpses of what we can expect from him but the game changed in the 43rd minute.

Zoltan Gera’s stunning strike from outside the box, gave West Brom the lead minutes before half-time.

The Red’s had dominated the first half in terms of possession but were unable to take their chances.

Into the second half and Liverpool’s day didn’t get any better when Daniel Agger was sent off in the 58th minute for a foul against Shane Long. The resulting penalty was saved by Pepe Reina.

However 9 minutes later, West Brom were granted yet another penalty, after Martin Skrtel was deemed to have committed a foul in the area. Peter Odemwingie dispatched the penalty emphatically and with 14 minutes left, Romelu Lakaku scored on his debut for his new club, adding to Liverpool’s woes.

Joe Cole came on as a substitue but was replaced 10 minutes later by Andy Carroll after he picked up an injury.

It was a bad day at the office and Liverpool’s attention now focuses on their Europa League game against Hearts on Thursday.
